WATCH: Mark Pope May Not Be Done Yet as Kentucky Boss Seen Possibly Recruiting In Mexico

Mark Pope might not be done with recruiting just yet before the start of the new season. While the commitment of Milan Momcilovic to Kentucky was historic, there seems to be some work left to be done to prepare the roster for the upcoming campaign.

And this is probably why Mark Pope flew down to Mexico to witness the FIBA U18 AmeriCup tournament, and not just to watch Team USA in action, but to watch a game that few would have expected him to be watching if he was going just as a fan.

Pope was seen taking in the action in a new bearded look, suggesting a bit of a change might be coming to Lexington in more ways than one. With Brazil victorious against the Dominican Republic, they now play Team USA on June 6 and it remains to be seen whether Pope would be around for the game.

What’s more curious, however, is who was Pope actually here for? The jury is still out with some talented players on both sides, but with other coaches such as John Calipari also admitting that they flew to Mexico to witness possible recruits, it could be basically anybody.

Marlon Martinez stood out for the Dominican Republic in this game, scoring 29 points and clocking the most minutes for his side while Brazil’s Pietro Melo and Joao Neves did the business with 21 points and 20 points respectively.

Who is Mark Pope Being Linked With?

Reports suggest that the Milan Momcilovic move might not be the only one. Pope has been linked with a host of targets, but Savo Drezgic is a name that continues to come up.

Drezgic plays in Serbia and is highly appreciated in Lexington, who continue to remain in contact despite interest from Gonzaga, Arizona State and California.
