Michael Malone’s on-court season is over, but bigger moments are happening away from the arc, the free-throw line and the sideline. Malone’s team, like every other in the NCAA, is gearing up for players to exit and others to arrive.
One player in particular could be on the way after the team contacted him. According to a Friday, the choice to contact Troy power forward Thomas Dowd would be a boost to a team looking to elevate “nicely,” in the words of Kade Nix.
“Another star from a smaller school contacted thus far is Thomas Dowd from Troy. He, among others, led Troy to a successful season as Sun Belt Champions and finished tallying 14.4 points per game and 10.1 rebounds,” Nix wrote. “The 6-foot-8 junior is listed as a power forward, which would fill the spot nicely and could be part of an amazing front court if Henri Veesaar were to return.”
Of course, with the roster in line for changes, nothing is set in stone. Anyone could decide anything at any time, and at least some changes are expected.
UNC Transfer Portal Expected to Balloon Under Michael Malone
While some players are likely on the way, many more appear to be on deck to exit. A point guard, two power forwards, a shooting guard, and three combo guards have either entered the transfer portal or are expected to, according to On3.
Put simply, there will be plenty of spots for Michael Malone to fill as he looks to upgrade everywhere he can. Upgrades are the lifeblood of winning, and for Malone to have a shot at a national championship in the most brutal playoff in sports in 2026, he will need to look far and wide.
