UConn Coach Dan Hurley Criticizes Mock Drafts for Snubbing Georgetown’s Micah Peavy

UConn Huskies Coach Dan Hurley recently criticized basketball analysts’ decision to exclude Georgetown senior guard Micah Peavy from various 2025 NBA mock drafts.

While he is still likely to get drafted, Peavy not being among the top 60 players selected in different mock drafts is shocking. Hurley questioned the analysts’ judgment after his side beat Georgetown on Feb. 26, and he got to see the Hoyas star play in person.

Dan Hurley Praises Georgetown Guard Micah Peavy

The UConn Huskies returned to winning ways Wednesday night with a 93-79 win over Georgetown, but it was guard Micah Peavy’s performance that caught Dan Hurley’s eye.

Peavy was the Hoyas’ best player on the floor, dropping 25 points in addition to three assists and two rebounds. Despite showing out for Georgetown, he is not too high in most people’s prospect rankings, which is something that baffles Hurley.

“There’s a sidebar here. I just don’t know—like—these mock drafts. Like Micah Peavy— where is that guy in the mock draft,” Hurley said at his postgame press conference.

“I mean, like the shooting, the size, the two-way player—you know—the ability to attack the rim,” Hurley continued.

“The relentless, the competitiveness—like, where is that guy in the mock drafts? I just look at the film of this guy. Unless he’s 32 years old, which I don’t think he is, where is he in mock drafts? Like what is going on.”

Hurley may be right in his assessment because Peavy has been balling out for the Hoyas this season. The 6’8″ is averaging 16.5 points, 2.5 steals, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game across 28 matches this season.

In his last five games for Georgetown, Peavy has dropped at least 20-plus points, including a 30-point performance against the Butler Bulldogs.

However, despite his impressive performance so far this season, he is unlikely to be a first-round or second-round pick in this year’s draft.

While it’s still unclear how closed the door actually is for Georgetown’s postseason hopes, time will tell whether Hurley’s assessment of Peavy will be right, leading to a selection in the 2025 NBA Draft.
