Arizona HC Tommy Lloyd Responds To UNC Coaching Rumors With Cryptic Comment

After the University of North Carolina announced their decision to fire their former head coach, Hubert Davis, after spending 5 seasons together, many names have been swirling on the internet to be his replacement, including the Arizona Wildcats head coach, Tommy Lloyd.

As the Wildcats clinched a thrilling 79-64 win over Purdue in their Elite 8 showdown and have now made their spot in the Final Four, Lloyd’s cryptic post-game comments about Arizona potentially having another coach in the future caught the fans’ attention.

The statement comes amidst Lloyd’s reported rising tensions with the Wildcasts AD Desiree Reed-Francois, as a contract extension is still being discussed.

“You know, the sun may be shining on this team and me coaching it right now, but when it’s shining on you, you got to fight to protect it and build it,” Lloyd told reporters. “So that’s what I feel like my number one responsibility is, to fight to protect the program and fight to build it for those who came before me and for those that are going to follow after me, because you know what, Arizona is going to have another good coach after me. I promise you. The place is special.“

Before this, Lloyd sounded confident about his job on Tuesday and called the Arizona job among the best in the country.

“And one thing we talk about in our program all the time — and I think I’ve gotten better at it, and I think our team’s been crushing it this year — is just the ability to have full focus and be present in the moment.”

Analyst Calls Tommy Lloyd’s Arizona run hall of fame worthy

Gary Parrish recently spoke highly of Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd after he secured his exciting Final Four birth on Saturday, which is the program’s first one since 2001.

The analyst highlighted how Llyod was the next head coach in making at Gonzaga University, where he spent 20 seasons under Mark Few and then accepted a job at Arizona 5 years ago, where he has since then won 148 games.

“Still a ways to go, obviously. But through five years, his career, it has Hall of Fame written all over it.” Parrish said.

Parrish then mentioned how Llyod has won 2 Pac 12 titles, one Big 12 title, 2 Pac 12 Tournament titles, and a Big 12 Tournament Title, and has also been named the National coach of the year in two different seasons.
