Todd Golden’s Florida and Mark Pope’s Kentucky recently clashed in the SEC tournament. Golden and the Florida Gators emerged victorious with a 71-63 scoreline.
Kentucky has had a topsy-turvy season, and Pope has received a lot of criticism for it. Florida and Golden are coming off a national championship season, and they continued with the same momentum this season as well.
The Gators are 26-6 and have been seeded first in the SEC. They once again have a strong squad and look equipped to go deep in the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky, on the other hand, is 21-13. Pope has struggled to keep the momentum going. The Wildcats have also suffered due to injuries to many of their players throughout the season. It has been a difficult run for them.
When the two sides met, the difference between them was clear. The Gators were the favorites going into the matchup. And that’s exactly how the game went. There was a moment when Todd Golden was fired up on the sidelines. He was clapping mockingly and prancing around. Mark Pope apparently called for a technical for Golden for his actions, and the referee complied. This made Golden act out more.
Fans were unimpressed with Golden’s behavior and called him out for the same.
“He’s a complete a***ole,” one fan wrote.
“He’s overrated, obviously can recruit but he’s not a difference maker on the sideline. He was outcoached every game of his championship season in the tournament, his players bailed him out,” one fan explained.
“‘T him up’ Ref listens and T’s him up, I mean like what the f*ck?” one fan noticed.
“Todd Golden acts like a child and is obnoxiously arrogant,” one fan called out Florida head coach.
“He wishes he was Pope sooo bad lol,” another fan said.
“F*ck Golden can’t stand his crying a**, most fragile ego ever,” another commented.
“How could you not hate Todd Golden,” another replied.
Florida vs Kentucky Game Summary
Florida’s Alex Condon led the court with an impressive double-double. He had 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists with 7-12 FGs and 8-11 free throws. Thomas Haugh (13 points, 8 rebounds) and Xaivian Lee (11 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists) played their parts. They paved the way for Florida’s win.
On the other hand, it was a dull display from the Wildcats. Denzel Aberdeen led Kentucky with 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Collin Chandler and Mouhamed Dioubate ended up with double digits in points as well. But it wasn’t enough.
