UConn Huskies center Tarris Reed Jr. will have his hands full against the tough Michigan frontline on Monday as he seeks the Huskies’ third national title in four years.
However, his girlfriend, Gabriella “Gabi” Newman, might be having mixed allegiances on Monday. This is because Newman goes to Michigan and is also a track and field athlete there, so she may be cheering for both teams.
They have been spotted going on vacations together and have posted pictures together.

Newman is a native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, where the school is, and decided to go to her hometown school. She went to Ann Arbor Pioneer in high school before deciding to stay home and go to Michigan for college, majoring in history.
She is currently a senior and has won various competitions for Michigan, including the Michigan Invitational and the Simmons-Harvey Invitational.
She competes in both indoor and outdoor track and field, with her biggest wins being winning gold in the Silverston Invitational in February 2025, first in the Wolverine Invitational in January 2024 and 2025, and many other competitions where she also had a podium finish.
The high jump athlete may rock Michigan colors when competing or going to school, but whenever Tarris Reed Jr. and the UConn Huskies play, she dons the dark blue and white of Storrs and not the dark blue and gold of Ann Arbor.
She has showed support for the Huskies time and time again, but for the NCAA National Championship Game, her loyalty for either team will be tested.
It is still not known if she will be there for the big game, and which colors she will be rocking is still up in the air. The two met in Michigan, as Reed used to play for the Wolverines before leaving via the transfer portal.
Tarris Reed Jr. Talks About Facing His Former Team in NCAA Final
As for Tarris Reed Jr. himself, this is a full circle moment, as the center will be facing his former team in the national championship game. He noted that he had been talking to former teammates Will Tschetter and Nimari Burnett about possibly facing off in the national title game.
“It’s very hard to believe,” Reed said. “We were talking a couple of days ago. I saw them out at the fan fest, just talking for a little bit. It’s crazy the position I’m in. … How tough and ugly that season was, knowing we’re both at the national championship game years later. It’s pretty cool and pretty special.”
Reed has become a leader for UConn in his senior year and has been instrumental in sending the team to the final.
