Lots of movement is being seen in the college basketball world as the NBA Draft withdrawal deadline forces athletes to make their pick between joining the NBA and returning to college.
Amid all the hustle and bustle, St. John’s seem to have something to cheer about, as their biggest booster took to X to announce that someone was joining the team, without naming who it was.
“Welcome to St. John’s…………. Johnny Nation is fired up to have you!!!!!” was what Mike Repole wrote on X, sparking excitement among the St. John’s faithful.
Renowned journalist Aaron Torres quoted the tweet with his own thoughts, noting that Repole’s excitement could come from the capture of one of two big names, and noticeably believed one major one could miss out.
Torres said – “St. John’s biggest booster tweeting, at damn near the NBA Draft deadline. Interesting. Very interesting. (My hunch is that this is either Tounde Yessoufou or a Euro, and not Milan Momcilovic by the way).”
Is Milan Momcilovic Linked With a Move to St. John’s?
Perhaps the biggest name to withdraw from the NBA Draft is Milan Momcilovic. The Iowa State transfer is expected to charge some big money to return to college, with some estimates putting it as high as $6 Million to join a college team.
And as much as St. John’s fans would want the big man to join them, the reality is that he currently doesn’t seem likely to join the team, with the likes of Kentucky and Louisville in a better position to make the deal.
In reality, Tounde Yessoufou is a much more realistic acquisition for Rick Pitino, and will add a lot to St. John’s if they indeed make the announcement soon. Either way, it’s time to be very hopeful for fans of the program.
