“Don’t Love-Love”: Skip Bayless Names Cameron Boozer’s Flaws Despite Third Overall NBA Draft Pick

Cameron Boozer was selected as the third overall pick at the 2026 NBA Draft by the Memphis Grizzlies. In the last few weeks, Boozer’s draft stock went up significantly, placing him as a potential top-five pick.

However, Skip Bayless doesn’t believe that Boozer was ready to be in the league. The media veteran took to X to outline his flaws. He also gave him props in the same post, calling him an athlete who could do anything for his team.

“Love his dad but don’t love-love Cameron Boozer in the NBA. Just not that explosively athletic. But he is a very good, extremely well-taught basketball player who will give you all he has every night and provide solid leadership,” Bayless wrote.

It’s a contradictory statement from Bayless because, on one hand, he talked about the lack of explosiveness in Boozer’s game and, on the other, he highlighted his command of the fundamentals, his leadership, and his resilience.

Boozer played one season of college basketball with the Duke Blue Devils. He averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting nearly 56%, including 40% from 3-point range.

He won several awards this year as well, including the National College Player of the Year, and made it to the Consensus first-team All-America. Bayless believes he could’ve further developed his game on the college circuit before making the jump to the pros.

However, Boozer is now a top-three pick, marking his name in the NBA history books.

Cameron Boozer’s Father is Immensely Proud of His Accomplishments

Cameron is the son of Carlos Boozer, who played 13 years in the NBA, scored nearly 14k points, over 8k rebounds, and made two NBA All-Star appearances. As a father, he is very proud of the path his son has carved out for himself.

Ahead of the draft, Carlos talked about his sons, Cameron and Cayden, and the sacrifices they’ve made to be successful in their respective careers.

“I’m so proud of him,” Carlos said, according to Krysten Peek. “It’s hard to put it into words. I can’t believe what they’ve accomplished. I’m blown away, and since I went through it and I walked their path, I know the sacrifices they have to make, I know the things they have to give up.”

In the weeks leading up to the draft, Carlos met with all four teams at the top of the draft, including the Memphis Grizzlies. The proud father was deeply involved in his son’s journey, and all the hard work has now started to pay off.
