Darryn Peterson has been the center of attention leading up to the 2026 NBA draft after his decision to only offer a pre-draft interview to the Washington Wizards, who hold the No. 1 overall pick in Tuesday’s draft.
Peterson has been very clear about his intentions to join Anthony Davis and co. since the start of the drafting formalities, despite AJ Dybantsa being a possible threat to his dreams.
According to insider Jeff Goodman, at least one general manager also shares Peterson’s high self-confidence. In a social media post on Monday, Goodman said:
While Peterson clearly offers better three-point shooting, which can be a boon for the Wizards to pair with their inside threat in Anthony Davis, there are doubts around the league when it comes to Peterson’s availability.
Peterson missed a total of 11 games last season due to hamstring problems, an ankle sprain as well as due to illness. Peterson later clarified that the main reason behind his cramping was consuming creatine for the first time.
AJ Dybantsa Becomes Odds-On Favorite For No. 1 Overall Pick
While Peterson has recieved backing from the league based on his on-court performances, AJ Dybantsa has been steadily viewed as the favorite to be the No. 1 Overall Pick, according to sportsbooks.
Peterson who opened as a -325 favorite back in February, currently sits as +600 underdog, while Dybantsa who was once a +360 underdog sits as a clear favorite at -750 per BetMGM. This gives Dybantsa a 88% chance to go number one per implied odds. Cameron Boozer sits behind the two with +4000 odds to become the first pick.
