Morez Johnson Jr. might have thought that his sojourn with coach Dusty May would have ended after the duo played a pivotal role in earning the Michigan Wolverines their national championship earlier this year, but all that changed after May was appointed Dallas Mavericks head coach and now, Morez Johnson Jr. joins him at the Mavs.
The bizarre moment was confirmed at the NBA draft, as the Mavericks made Johnson their 9th pick at the event, with Dusty May surely involved behind the scenes to get his former Michigan man on board at the Mavs.
And apparently it isn’t just Dusty May who believes in the abilities of Morez Johnson Jr., with several college coaches reportedly speaking behind the scenes about what a quality player he is, and it’s clear that the Mavericks have just acquired a top talent.
The possibility of Johnson joining Dusty May again in the NBA is so surreal that even the player himself finds it crazy that this is actually happening, telling ESPN that it’s the “Michigan Mavs” now.
Morez Johnson Jr. Played His Best Basketball Under Dusty May
There’s enough reason already to believe that Morez Johnson Jr. will be at his best at Dallas with Dusty May in charge.
After starting his college journey with Illinois and performing well, Johnson took things up a notch after transferring to Michigan, playing a pivotal role in the national championship winning season.
He would end up joining the Big Ten All-Defensive team and the All-Big Ten Second-team after a stunning season where he can always call himself NCAA Champion.
