Rob Wright Transfer Portal: 5 Landing Spots for BYU Point Guard

Third-team All-Big 12 selection Rob Wright has announced his decision to leave the BYU Cougars after one season. He had transferred from Baylor to BYU after his freshman year.

Besides the honors he got in the 2026 season, he was also on the Big 12 All-Freshman Team in the previous season. He has turned into a reliable scoring starting guard with significant Big 12 experience. Expect him to move to an important program.

Here’s a series of options for him to consider as he looks for a new home.

5 Landing Spots for Rob Wright

    #5 Alabama Crimson Tide

The Crimson Tide had a bit of a stumble this season, but Nate Oats’ men have proven before that they can be serious contenders in the SEC and NCAA Tournament.

Oats has to keep an eye out for a new starting guard in the transfer portal, as the departures of Latrell Wrightsell Jr. and Houston Mallette will leave an important gap on his roster. Rob Wright would be the perfect player to take over in 2025-26.

    #4 Texas Red Raiders

The Red Raiders looked like one of the top 10 programs in the nation at times in 2025-26, but in the end, they fell short of a great March Madness run, making it just to the second round and ending as the No. 21 team in the AP Poll.

There’s every chance that guard Christian Anderson will leave for the NBA this offseason. Wright could be a good replacement for him and keep the Red Raiders relevant for next year’s NCAA Tournament.

    #3 Louisville Cardinals

Another middle-of-the-road program that made it to the NCAA Tournament, but didn’t do anything remarkable, is the Louisville Cardinals, which would mean a move to the ACC.

Louisville has to replace outgoing players Mikel Brown Jr. and Ryan Conwell, and the team is expected to use significant NIL money during this transfer portal window. This could be enough to attract Wright to Louisville.

    #2 Arkansas Razorbacks

The Razorbacks are becoming a force to be reckoned with in the SEC. They won their second-ever SEC Tournament and made it to the Sweet 16 for the second season in a row.

They have a huge problem this offseason, replacing Darius Acuff Jr. While Wright is nowhere near Acuff Jr.’s level yet, the Hogs could do worse.

    #1 Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats are expected to be the top team searching for a game-changing point guard. After another disappointing season, Mark Pope needs to revamp the Kentucky roster to make it competitive again.

Their current starting guard, Jaland Lowe, has decided to leave the school via the transfer portal and is expected to end at Alabama. Rob Wright would be the perfect player to step into the starting lineup.
