When Rick Pitino says something about college basketball, it is usually the consensus. Most recently, Pitino complained about how chaotic the transfer portal would be if the NCAA came to a major decision.
“Rick Pitino to @TheFieldOf68 if NCAA grants everyone a 5th year of eligibility – including this senior class. “It would be pure chaos. Most teams have used 80% of their NIL. Next year makes sense. Now don’t get me wrong, I would love to have my seniors back but our NIL is just about finished. … Unless Mike (Repole) wins the Derby lol,”” insider Jeff Goodman reported.
Rick Pitino has seen it all. From success, consistency, suspensions, scandals, rebuild, and comebacks. His esteemed career of over 52 years has been filled with drama, and he has been a rock through it all. From coaching in college basketball to taking his talents to the NBA, there are not many coaches with more experience than him.
St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino’s run-ins with NCAA leadership
Rick Pitino has often questioned the NIL structure, rules, and the working of the transfer portal. NIL and the transfer portal have been a constant issue in college basketball for quite some time now.
Pitino has always raised his voice for the betterment of college basketball. He complained and ranted about pro players from the NBA, G-League, and European leagues coming back to college. He expressed his discontent. He has also made some valid points about the NCAA’s planning and management. And this was just another such instance.
He has changed the course of St. John’s basketball program in just a few years. They are now senior contenders, or even if underdogs, they are more than capable of pulling the upset. And Pitino has once again proved himself with St. John’s.
