“It’s Time”: Rick Pitino Remembers Michael Jordan’s Carnage as Knicks Receive Clear Message

The New York Knicks finally look like they can lift the curse that has prevented them from winning an NBA Championship since 1973, cruising along to the finals after a clean sweep of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And one man who bleeds New York and wants them to succeed desperately is Rick Pitino, who took to X to talk about his personal love for the Knicks and what he remembers about the last time they were so close but couldn’t quite get the job done.

Rick Pitino took to social media to write – “In 1989, I thought we had a chance to win the NBA championship after going 4-0 vs the Bad Boys. MJ put an end to that dream. Then in 1999 the Knicks caught lightning in a bottle but lost to the Spurs. I was a Jr at UMass when the last championship was won. This team gets it done. It’s time. Deep & talented group with a great attitude. The Moët is on ice. Go NY, Go NY, Go!”

Tough Moment for Rick Pitino and the New York Knicks

Rick Pitino has a special affiliation with the 1989 series. He was head coach of the Knicks at the time and nearly took the team to the promise land before a young Michael Jordan put an end to that dream.

The St. John’s head coach had already done the Knicks a big favor by leading them to their first division title in nearly twenty years, but resigned after Jordan’s Chicago Bulls stopped a sensational run for one of the NBA’s most famous franchises.

All these years on, the Knicks stand on the cusp of a title, and a New Yorker like Pitino would like nothing more than to see Jalen Brunson and co achieve the dream he once saw himself.
