Rick Barnes Raises Eyebrows With Gambling Remark After Tennessee’s Turnover-Filled Night vs Auburn

Saturday night saw the Tennessee Volunteers emerge victorious in Knoxville after defeating the Auburn Tigers with a scoreline of 77-69 at the Thompson-Boling Arena.

Despite the Volunteers accumulating another victory this season, head coach Rick Barnes wasn’t impressed with his side’s passing play against the Tigers, so much so that it prompted an out-of-pocket comment from him that most definitely raised a lot of eyebrows.

In the postgame press conference, Barnes was seen talking about his team’s gameplay against the Auburn-based side, quite visibly frustrated as indicated by his constant face-palming.

He then blurted something about the Volunteers and their players that caught a lot of people off guard, resulting in a lot of laughs in the media room.

“In the game, some of the passes that we throw…I mean, just…I don’t know what to say other than that sometimes I wonder if my guys are betting on games”, Barnes stated (0:00).

“I just wonder what’s happening…I mean…because I know we’re too good of players to do that”, he further elaborated (0:15).

Despite the light nature of the room, Barnes soon apologized for his comments whilst also acknowledging he shouldn’t have said what he did.

Meanwhile, the win means the Tennessee-based side now holds an overall record of 15-6, while the Tigers, having lost 8 games so far this campaign, are currently sitting with 14 wins so far.

Tennessee Propels to Third Straight SEC Victory After Auburn Triumph

Despite the win not being as seamless as Barnes’ standards, the Tennessee Volunteers have now won their third SEC game in a row, subsequently holding a 5-3 record in the conference.

After defeating the likes of Alabama and Georgia, the Auburn win has primed Tennessee to be one of the top draws of the conference.

With the Volunteers currently sitting in the sixth spot, their next games against the likes of Ole Miss, Kentucky, and Mississippi State will play a crucial role in deciding the future course of their conference standings.
