The Purdue Boilermakers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers are set to face off in a Big Ten Tournament matchup tonight. This will be Nebraska’s first game of the tournament, whereas the Boilermakers are coming off an 81-68 win against the Northwestern Wildcats.
Nebraska has had a better season. It is 26-5 overall and 15-5 in the conference. The Cornhuskers are the second seed in the Big Ten.
The Boilermakers aren’t very far behind in terms of their record, but they are ranked seventh in the conference. Purdue is 24-8 overall and 13-7 in the conference. The two teams will now face each other in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals.
The Purdue Boilermakers don’t have any players listed on their recent injury report. While Oscar Cluff has been healthy and available for his team throughout the season, his limited game time during the last stretch in the third round of the Big Ten Tournament was concerning for fans.
The Cornhuskers, on the other hand, have a slightly weaker roster, with three players mentioned on the injury report.
Ugnius Jarusevicius – Questionable – Undisclosed
Connor Essegian – Out – Ankle
Henry Burt – Questionable – Undisclosed
Despite the three players on their injury report, the Cornhuskers are expected to be a real threat to the Boilermakers. Their overall season record proves they don’t have a problem going up against any team.
Interestingly, Purdue will head into the game as the favorite. However, the Cornhuskers have had ample time to rest and prepare for the game, as they last played on Sunday against Iowa. The Boilermakers, on the other hand, played the Northwestern Wildcats yesterday.
Nebraska Head Coach’s Contract Extension
Nebraska head coach Fred Hoiberg joined the program in 2019 and has overseen remarkable consistency. The program recently rewarded Hoiberg for the progress he has made with the team.
Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen announced that both parties have agreed to a contract extension that will run through the 2031-32 season.
“Fred Hoiberg is a tremendous representative of the University of Nebraska, the Lincoln community, and our state. We are extremely proud that he will continue to lead the Nebraska men’s basketball program well into the future,” Nebraska Athletic Director Troy Dannen said.
Although the exact value of his contract isn’t known, Hoiberg’s salary at Nebraska is reported to be $4.35 million to $4.75 million per year.
