AJ Dybantsa is a hot topic heading into the NBA Draft, and for good reason. The BYU man was the number one player in the 2025 recruiting class and he more than backed up with his individual displays in his one year of college basketball.
Now, AJ has confirmed that he’s declaring for the upcoming NBA Draft, and hopes to be one of the top picks in the 2026 edition to give his career the boost it needs.
Many have predicted that either Dybantsa or Darryn Peterson would be the number one pick at the draft, and it now seems like AJ is the one that NBA General Managers have their eyes on take the numero uno spot.
Insider Adam Zagoria is reporting that one exec told him just this, suggesting that the others would be out of place if they didn’t think Dybantsa was the number one pick.
NBA Draft Lottery Begins on May 10
With May 10 fixed as the day for the lottery, there is very little time for teams to think about anything other than what has already been planned for weeks if not months.
Dybantsa was a one-man show at times for BYU, which is why he featured top of ESPN analyst Jeremy Woo’s mock draft as well, with Darryn Peterson occupying second place.
Teams seem to have decided internally that Dybantsa will be the guy for the top spot and it’s abundantly clear that few would argue against that decision.
