Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green is showing no love to St. John’s Red Storm guard Dylan Darling and Kansas Jayhawks coach Bill Self after their recent postseason matchup. On Sunday, March 22, Darling and the rest of Rick Pitino’s Red Storm team beat Self’s Jayhawks 67-65 in the second round of the 2026 NCAA tournament at Viejas Arena.
In a video posted by Green on his show’s X/Twitter account, he named Bryce Hopkins as the “hero” of the game. Green shared his thoughts on the game, particularly on Darling’s heroics in the end against Self and company, who were constantly fouling late. Green said fouling late and forcing opponents into free throws has been a tactic for teams to stage a comeback for a long time now.
However, the NBA star said Kansas abused it so much that Jayhawks sophomore Elmarko Jackson could not do it anymore when guarding Darling in the final play.
“The guy who was guarding the ball can’t put any ball pressure on the ball because he can’t take the chance of fouling. Everybody’s like, ‘Oh man, he gave up a straight line drive. You can’t give up a straight line drive.’ Yes, you’re correct. You can’t give up a straight line drive. But how stupid do they look if he, all of a sudden, now he’s sitting down, he guard, they foul all the way into the penalty, and then he mistakenly bumps the guy, the guy falls over, he gets free throws,” Green said (0:21).
“How crazy does that kid look? And so, I think it was ridiculous to foul that much to go into the penalty and then have to play defense on this last possession in the penalty, and can’t use your hands, can’t do anything. I think that was crazy. Ultimately, it cost them the game,” he continued.
Darling hit a game-winning contested layup over Jackson that gave the Red Storm the win over the Kansas-based program. St. John’s now moves on to the Sweet 16 of this year’s national tournament for the first time since 1999, where they will face coach Jon Scheyer’s Duke Blue Devils on Friday, March 27, at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Draymond Green Says Bryce Hopkins Was The Real Hero For The St. John’s Red Storm
In the same video, Draymond Green asserted that St. John’s Red Storm standout Bryce Hopkins was the real hero for his team in their recent postseason victory.
This came after Green dismissed Dylan Darling and his game-clinching bucket, but this time for Hopkins. Hopkins put up 18 points, seven rebounds, one assist, and two steals in 34 minutes of action.
“ One thing I hate is, you know, this guy (Darling) hadn’t hit a shot all night. He hit one shot, and everybody’s like, ‘Oh man, he’s the hero.’ Bryce Hopkins was the hero. Bryce Hopkins made every play down the stretch, every shot down the stretch that he needed to make. So shout out to him,” Green shared (0:58).
