MSU Basketball Transfer Portal: Full List of Players Entering and Exiting

The transfer portal will officially open on April 7, and Michigan State will hope to make some big moves in the offseason.

After a run to the Sweet 16, Tom Izzo’s Spartans will shift their focus to putting together a strong roster for next season while keeping some of their most talented players.

Here’s a list of players who have either committed to MSU or are ending their Spartans journey:

    Entering MSU

Ethan Taylor, a 7-foot center from Kansas City, who is finishing high school at Link Academy, has committed to MSU.

Carlos Medlock Jr., point guard from Link Academy, has committed to MSU.

Jasiah Jervis, a 6’5 shooting guard from Stepinac High School, will join MSU this year. He is one of the most talented all-round players in his class.

    Exiting MSU

Jaxon Kohler, a 6’9 power forward, joined the Michigan State Spartans in 2022 and has exhausted his college eligibility.

Carson Cooper, 6’11 center for the Spartans, has also exhausted his college eligibility.

Trey Fort, 6’4 guard for the Spartans, has exhausted his college eligibility.

Nick Sanders, a 5’10 guard for the Spartans, played the final game of his college career against UConn.

The good news for the Spartans is that no players with eligibility have entered the transfer portal as yet. However, that might change over the next week.

MSU Head Coach on Retirement Rumors

MSU head coach Tom Izzo joined the Spartans in 1995. He turned 71 in January, and after MSU’s exit from the NCAA Tournament, rumors of his retirement began to spread. At the post-game presser, Izzo stated that he has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

“We all talk about retirement,” he said. “Why? What the hell am I going to do? The minute I don’t feel good, the minute I don’t feel like I’m giving my AD or president or school every ounce of energy I have every day, or that energy drops, you don’t have to worry about it. I don’t steal money. I won’t steal anybody’s time. But it’s sure as hell not going to be now.”

Izzo said that even though the season was over for MSU, his job as a head coach was far from over, as he had to go and talk to each player individually about the upcoming transfer portal.
