Kentucky Basketball Recruiting Rumors: Mark Pope Set To Take Major Step For 2027 Prospect As Tyran Stokes Commitment Saga Continues

Kentucky Wildcats head coach Mark Pope is awaiting the decision of Tyran Stokes. At the same time, he’s also taking steps to recruit another star from the same class.

Pope and Kentucky assistant coach Mikhail McLean are set to go fishing with 2027 No. 1 recruit CJ Rosser on Tuesday, per KSR. Fishing is one of Rosser’s favorite hobbies.

“I’m a country boy, so I like to go fishing,” he told KSR in February. “A lot of people don’t know I’m really from the country, so I really like to do lots of stuff outside. … I do lots of fishing — I do lots of bass fishing growing up. Really, just me and my grandpa going out to ponds, me just walking around fishing, just calm and relaxed in a peaceful state of mind.”

Rosser said fishing helps him isolate himself from the chaotic world and find his inner peace.

“When I go out, it’s really just me. It’s really just — some days I go out there and catch something, some days I don’t. But it’s just a matter of my mind,” Rosser said. “It takes lots of patience. It really makes you be more patient, really knowing — and it’s kind of anxiousness. Because if you don’t catch nothing, this next cast, I can probably catch something. It’s really just having that mindset of always looking at the next cast.”

Along with Kentucky, Rosser is being recruited heavily by North Carolina, Louisville, Arkansas, BYU and Alabama. The 6-foot-9 power forward averaged 12.7 points, 9.3 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals in the EYBL’s opening session this weekend.

Mark Pope to Get Update on Tyran Stokes’ Commitment

Insider Matt Norlander reported that Tyran Strokes will announce his decision on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. ET on “Inside the NBA.” Stokes is in Atlanta, where “Inside the NBA” is filmed.

Stokes will likely select between Kentucky and Kansas. Oregon was a finalist, but has lost ground, per Norlander.

Two weeks ago, Stokes visited Lexington and met Mo Williams, Kentucky’s newest addition to the coaching staff. Pope also hired Jamal Crawford, an assistant on Stokes’ high school team. Therefore, there is a good chance that Stokes picks Kentucky.
