Kentucky Adds Elite Shooter Kam Williams from Tulane Via Transfer Portal

On Friday, March 28, Kam Williams made a transfer commitment to Kentucky for the 2025-26 season. The college freshman at Tulane has made his mark this season with his impressive skills.

Williams has made himself a top NBA prospect as a forward for his team. Amongst other skills, Williams is known as an elite shooter. William has averaged 9.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 33 games this season with the Green Wave.

With a 41.5% three-point shooting percentage and an overall 48.5 field goal percentage, Williams has proven to be an excellent shooter and a great defender. This has made him a key contributor to the Green Wave team.

Why Does Kentucky Want Kam Williams?

Kentucky and its coach, Mark Pope, have scouted Williams because of his skills and ability to protect the rim. He also has one of the qualities Pope looks for in his players: the ability to shoot and cut.

Without a star scorer like Williams, Kentucky’s 2025-26 season would be tough, as six of its players are exhausting their eligibility to play this season. Because he is big and extremely athletic, Williams can defend his team against huge players.

With the team losing some of its guards and forwards, Williams will fill one of the power forward positions, shooting off the bench, guarding, and defending.

Williams has said that Pope’s coaching style resonates with what he wants in a coach.

In addition, as a freshman, Williams will garner more exposure, experience, and expertise under Mark Pope. He will also fit in with incoming players like Jasper Johnson and Acaden Lewis.

    Will Williams’ Presence Change Anything?

Williams’ choice to pick Kentucky over other great teams, such as Florida, Baylor, Texas, and others, shows how great the Kentucky team is.

With Williams’ transfer to the Southeastern Conference, the team’s culture and spirit at Kentucky, and the coaching staff’s ability to attract top talent, Kentucky’s standing in the SEC will likely improve.

With a player that NBA scouts are closely watching, Williams will give the team and his teammates the exposure they need.
