Isaiah Evans has been lighting up the court playing for the Duke Blue Devils since 2024. He has become a McDonald’s All-American, two-time North Carolina Mr. Basketball, and more in his stint with the Blue Devils.
This season, he is averaging 14.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.2 assists while shooting over 42% from the field. Evans is being widely viewed as a first-round draft pick because of his shooting ability and overall developing game.
His team is currently ruling the Atlantic Coast rankings, sitting at the top position with 23 wins and just two losses. The Blue Devils have remained unbeaten at home throughout this season so far.
There’s no doubt that Evans has a bright future ahead of him. The dedication and work ethic that he has is something that he got to witness firsthand at home. Evans carries all those lessons with him as he tries to make a name for himself in professional basketball.
Who Are Isaiah Evans’ Parents?
Evans’ mother, Marieke Lemon, raised him and his brother as a single mother. Marieke supported his basketball career from the beginning. Other than providing everything that he needed, she showed up at his games and sacrificed a lot in the process.
Marieke worked long hours to provide for her family, but still managed to keep a strict schedule in order to support her son. Whenever Marieke needed help, her mother and Evans’ grandmother, was there for the family as well.
All her efforts and sacrifice has paid off as Evans has become one of the best players in the country today. He is destined for the NBA, and with a constantly developing profile and Duke’s backing, he’s going to make a splash in the big league soon.
Marieke knew early on that her son was good at multiple sports. So, she supported him while he tried soccer and football. Evans stopped playing football around the sixth grade, and he moved on from soccer when he was nearly 10 years old.
Realizing that basketball was his true calling, he started focusing on shaping himself into a good basketball player. During a conversation with the Fayetteville Observer, Evans revealed that he used to play a lot of sports growing up with family and friends.
“That’s just where it started,” he said. “That’s where my love for the game started, playing those local rec teams and just getting a love for the game. A general love for the game.”
That’s where he developed his love for the game, and once he started getting better at it, he played with other players who also had aspirations to be professionals.
