Henri Veesaar’s North Carolina Tar Heels will play the Syracuse Orange today at JMA Wireless Dome. Both teams are coming off losses in their last respective games and would like to walk away with a win today before it turns into a losing streak.
UNC played the NC State Wolfpack earlier this week and was defeated 58-82. Veesaar didn’t play in that game. The Syracuse Orange also suffered a blowout loss in their last game, losing 64-101 to the Duke Blue Devils.
Looking at their overall record, Syracuse is in a bad place right now. They have a 15-12 overall record and are 6-8 in the conference. Although they have been dominant at home, with a 12-4 record, they have won just two of seven games on the road.
This will be a must-win game for the Tar Heels. They have lost two of their last three games and are currently 20-6. They have an 8-5 record in the conference and sit just outside the top five in the Atlantic Coast.
Even though the Tar Heels are going against a team with a weaker record, they have had their own set of problems to deal with. Their biggest concern going into the Syracuse matchup was the health of their star center Henri Veesaar. Fortunately, he has been cleared to play.
As per Pete Thamel, Veesaar will be playing today. His presence will have a positive impact on the team because he has been churning out good numbers consistently.
After 24 games in this season, he is averaging 16.4 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. Veesaar is shooting 61.5% from the field and 44.8% from the three-point line. When he laces up today, he will likely tip the scales in the Tar Heels’ favor.
Hubert Davis Gave an Update earlier on Henri Veesaar
Head coach Hubert Davis provided an update earlier on Henri Veesaar, and it is exactly what the North Carolina Tar Heels fans wanted to hear. Davis stated that Veesaar has been making great progress.
“He’s getting better every day,” Davis said on Friday. “Had an individual workout yesterday. He’s planning on participating in practice today, limited basis, but he is still questionable, so we just got to see how practice goes.”
Veesaar had an individual workout and participated in team practice before the game.
