Alex Sarr, a French professional basketball player for the Washington Wizards in the NBA, played for the French youth national team and the Perth Wildcats of the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) before he was selected No. 2 overall by the Wizards in the 2024 NBA Draft.
Dame Sarr, a professional basketball player for FC Barcelona of the Spanish Liga ACB and the EuroLeague, is currently being recruited by Kansas and Oregon, with Kansas considered favorites to land the international star. Illinois were also heavily interested in him, but they’ve pulled out after landing transfer wing Andrej Stojakovic.

What Is the Relationship Between Alex Sarr and Dame Sarr?
According to 247Sports’ Eric Bossi, head coach Bill Self and Kansas are scheduled to host Dame on campus for an official visit. The Jayhawks appear well-positioned to close the deal on the 18-year-old prospect, especially after Oregon has nearly completed its roster by adding Ohio State transfer Sean Stewart.
Dame is not related to Alex in any way, with their last name the only thing that connects them. Alex is French, while Dame is an Italian-Senegalese who has already represented the Italian national team.
However, Alex does have a basketball-playing brother, Olivier, who last played for the Oklahoma City Thunder on a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Blue of the NBA G League.
According to On3, Dame Sarr is a top-20 recruit in the Class of 2025. He would slide seamlessly into Kansas’ starting lineup and offer a perimeter weapon alongside incoming freshman Darryn Peterson.
Sarr is a high-level shooter, crafty at getting downhill, and is very good with both hands. Defensively, his length and athleticism should allow him to effectively defend both guard spots and any wings.
On both ends, Sarr and Peterson could form one of the most potent freshman backcourts in the country. Add big man Flory Bidunga on the interior, and the Jayhawks would have a trident that could propel them to unforeseen heights next season.
