With many from the Class of 2026 now secured, many have turned to the current high school juniors, also known as the Class of 2027. This includes Slinger High School small forward Jack Kohnen, who has several schools already lining up and trying to recruit him.
247Spors currently ranks Jack Kohnen as the No. 78 overall prospect from the Class of 2027, as well as being the No. 20 small forward and the No. 4 player in Wisconsin. One of his biggest suitors are the Iowa Hawkeyes, with assistant coach Josh Sash being the one actively talking to him right now.
He currently has several offers from other teams, such as Notre Dame, Indiana, Iowa State, Wake Forest, Wisconsin and others, with him completing an official visit to Nebraska last April. With that official visit, Nebraska was considered the current frontrunner at the moment, as he has not yet visited other schools. This changed after his visit to Iowa over the weekend.
That one was only an unofficial visit, which means he may go back for an official one sometime in the near future. This now begs the question of how good are Iowa’s chances of getting the small forward. For now, it is too early to tell, but given that he just paid them an unofficial visit, this means that their chances are a lot better than most, which means it is pretty good at the moment.
Ben McCollum had rolled out the red carpet but this is still too early in his recruitment. That early unofficial visit may be a sign that he wants to go back, though, so Iowa’s chances are still very good.
Jack Kohnen Also Interested in Wisconsin
Meanwhile, a third team may be in contention with Jack Kohnen, especially after they missed out on another prospect. That school is Kohnen’s home state school of Wisconsin, which may be turning around and giving the small forward a shot, and Kohnen has expressed some interest.
“I mean, it’s my home state. Just the idea of staying at home and playing for your state, it’s kind of just a childhood thing that you just wanted to do since you were little,” he told Jamie Shaw.
For now, nothing is final yet. Even if he does commit to a team this early on, there are chances that other schools might try to flip him, as he cannot sign with any team just yet.
