Hoosiers Guard Myles Rice Enters Transfer Portal Following Solid Sophomore Campaign

Rice is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal for the second consecutive offseason, per his agency.

College basketball analyst Jeff Goodman posted about the news.

Rice committed to Indiana on April 13, 2024. Now, not even a year later, he is looking for a new home for his redshirt junior season.

A three-star recruit out of Tyrone, Ga., Rice redshirted his first season with the Washington State Cougars in 2023 before breaking out in a redshirt freshman campaign in 2024, helping lead the Cougars to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to the second-seeded Iowa State Cyclones.

In that game, Rice played the entirety of the 40-minute contest and scored 13 points on six of 10 shooting from the field.

He averaged 14.8 ppg with Washington State, the second-leading scorer on the team, while grabbing 3.1 rpg and contributing team highs in assists (3.8 apg) and steals (1.6 spg). He was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and claimed Freshman All-American honors for his efforts.

Following the conclusion of the season, the 6’3″, 185-pound guard entered his name into the transfer portal and soon found a home in Bloomington with hopes of being the long-term answer at one of the guard positions.

Rice started 25 of his 32 games with Indiana, seeing each of his counting stats fall from the season prior to 10.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 2.8 apg, and 1.0 spg. Additionally, his field goal percentage also dropped from 43.9% to 41.2%.

It was a solid, if unspectacular, season for a player entering the season with high expectations. The Hoosiers also missed out on the NCAA Tournament despite mounting a late-season run that included winning five of their final eight games.

Rice was a non-factor in the final three games of the season, however, scoring a combined seven points and ending his Hoosiers tenure going scoreless in 28 minutes on 0 of 5 shooting off the bench in Indiana’s second loss to the Oregon Ducks in nine days, diminishing all hopes of a postseason berth.

Rice is the fifth IU player to enter the portal, joining Gabe Cupps, Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, and Jakai Newton.
