The New York Knicks roared to victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, beating the San Antonio Spurs 105-95 at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, and alongside Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns certainly played his part.
It may not have been the scoreboard-crushing display that Jalen Brunson put on to take most of the plaudits in the first game of the NBA Finals, but in his classic self, Karl-Anthony Towns was effective and robust for the Knicks, finishing with 18 points and 12 rebounds and a handful of congratulatory high fives from his teammates.
The performance prompted a message on X from his alma mater Kentucky, who have themselves been making all the right moves in the transfer portal lately, landing Milan Momcilovic after the Iowa State transfer announced his decision to withdraw from the NBA Draft, and witnessing the return of Malachi Moreno at Lexington.
Fans were quick to join in the congratulatory messages as the BBN recognized the importance of a player who once did the business for them in the very same way.
“KAT was great and I want the Knicks. But either way a celebration for UK fans!!,” one fan said.
“YES HE DID!!!!!! #BBN LMAOOO look at deaaron,” another said.
“Pouring honey on my goat,” one fan remarked.
“Cat on Cat crime,” a fan curiously said.
More for Karl-Anthony Towns to do in the NBA Finals
Despite the plaudits for his Game 1 performance, the Knicks would surely want KAT to kick on and deliver even more as the series continues.
Alongside the shooting prowess and skill of Jalen Brunson, he’s probably the most effective of the Knicks players around the rim, and its that partnership that has worked wonders for the New York outfit in the NBA Playoffs and regular season so far.
With the support of the entire Kentucky fan base behind him, Karl-Anthony Towns has the opportunity to go on and win the NBA title not just for the Knicks fans but for his entire college supporters too.
