The Indiana Hoosiers received a blowout loss from the Illinois Fighting Illini, and before the final buzzer went off, fans concluded that forward Tucker DeVries was the weakest link in the Indiana group.
Indiana has already had a terrible season whenever they’ve gone against a conference rival. They’ve lost more games, 8, than they’ve won, 7. So, the last thing they needed was another loss while facing the Fighting Illini.
The game wasn’t as lopsided in the first half as the final score suggests. Although they were trailing by seven points, the game was still close with the Fighting Illini leading 38-31. Then everything went haywire in the second half.
The Hoosiers were outscored 33-20 in the second half, and the Illinois Fighting Illini walked away with a comfortable 71-51 win. Fans blamed several players for the disappointing performance, but DeVries took the most heat.
“in my opinion tucker devries shouldn’t have spent his offseason eating a diet of only dairy queen blizzards and chicken nuggets,” a fan wrote.
“This team is awful. Imagine us without Wilkerson. Tucker Devries can’t graduate soon enough,” a fan wrote.
“Tucker devries sucks……,” a fan wrote.
“tucker devries YOU ARE a future enterprise rent a car salesman,” a fan wrote.
“Tucker DeVries does nothing for this team and meanwhile I guess we will push Trent Sisley into the transfer portal,” a fan wrote.
Indiana and DeVries’ performance was so bad that fans are now wishing for several of their key players to leave the program as soon as they can. The beating they’ve taken against the Fighting Illini is unjustifiable in the fans’ eyes.
Tucker DeVries Had an Awful Outing
One way to look at this loss would be to think that the Indiana Hoosiers were simply outplayed by the second-ranked team in the Big Ten. Indiana is ranked ninth on the same chart. But their problem runs deeper than that.
Tucker DeVries played 35 minutes for just 13 points. He went 5 of 12 from the field, 3 of 7 from the three-point line, had two rebounds, and one assist. He also had two turnovers, tied with Conor Enright for most by an Indiana player.
Overall, the Hoosiers shot just 41% from the field, 25% from beyond the arc, and 83% from the charity stripe. In comparison, the Fighting Illini shot 44%, 23%, and 86%. While Indiana committed 9 turnovers, Illinois limited its mistakes to just two turnovers.
