Darryn Peterson is currently locked in a tight three-way race for the Washington Wizards’ No. 1 pick. Currently, AJ Dybantsa is seen as the favorite, so there is a chance that Peterson might slide down to the No. 2 or No. 3 spot, especially with his controversial antics while playing for Kansas last season. However, he thinks he will still be picked No. 1 overall.
ESPN senior NBA insider Shams Charania is reporting that Darryn Peterson has already spoken with the Washington Wizards and is not looking to speak to any other team, just in case he falls to No. 2.
Given his antics that turned off fans while he was in Kansas, many were not impressed with Peterson, with some commenters predicting that he may be tanking his own draft stock with this bizarre decision, especially as main rival AJ Dybantsa has spoken with both the No. 1 Wizards and the No. 2 Utah Jazz.
“im sure peterson gonna slide down the draft,” one fan predicted.
“Peterson moving like the draft only has one pick. Dybantsa doing campus tours,” another commenter pointed out.
“I remember when players were so excited just to make it to the NBA, now they come into the league with so much entitlement. This type of stuff turns me off,” admitted one fan.
“I wonder if he would visit Washington if Utah had the first pick,” one fan noted, given rival AJ Dybantsa’s ties to Utah.
“Wow not a good look… Peterson might drop and San Antonio would be forced to pick him up 😔,” one Spurs fan said.
“Meanwhile, Dybantsa is keeping all options open. The Wizards’ decision at No. 1 could reshape the entire lottery,” replied one fan.
Darryn Peterson’s Medical Update Gives Him Better Chances At No. 1
Meanwhile, Darryn Peterson’s health report has now been released, and after all the concerns, the Jayhawks guard was given a clean bill of health, and ESPN’s Tim MacMahon has revealed that there should be no issues for teams to draft him.
“My understanding was their research and all of the weirdness with Darryn Peterson at Kansas did not show anything that would prevent them from drafting him,” he said. “Honestly, people I’ve talked to don’t think that situation was handled very well by the school.”
Peterson missed 11 games last season, though his health was not the only big concern that teams had, as his time at Kansas suggested that he may just have been doing the bare minimum to get drafted and did not cooperate well with the team and its coaches. While he put on some big numbers, many believed that he was not doing his best for the Jayhawks, who performed better when he was on the sidelines.
