Gabe Cupps Transfer Portal: Top 5 Potential Landing Spots for Ohio State Guard

After a less-than-stellar season for the Ohio State Buckeyes, the team is now losing players to the transfer portal left and right, and they are about to lose a talented guard in Gabe Cupps. On3/ Rivals’ Joe Tipton revealed that the Ohio native, a redshirt sophomore, plans to leave Ohio State and explore his options elsewhere. This was reportedly revealed by his agency, Excel Sports.

During his sole season with the Buckeyes, he averaged just 1.7 points and 1.1 assists per game on 37.8% from the floor and played 12.2 minutes per game. He was the state of Ohio’s Mr. Basketball, which means he certainly has potential for growth, but where should he go?

Top 5 Programs Gabe Cupps Could Go To Via the Transfer Portal

    Kentucky Wildcats

The Wildcats are in need of a point guard right now, and while they may be able to get a few stars given their program’s size, a backup like Gabe Cupps might not hurt. He might even turn into a diamond in the rough for them in the long run.

    Ohio Bobcats

Gabe Cupps originally went to Indiana but transferred to his home state’s premier school, Ohio State. If he is leaving but is looking to stay home, then the University of Ohio might be his answer, as he could still be close to home there and he might also be able to get more minutes with the Bobcats than he had with the Buckeyes.

    Miami (Ohio) RedHawks

This Ohio team made bigger waves than the Buckeyes and the Bobcats had this year, and with some seniors leaving and some expected transfer portal losses, they might be in the market for a new guard who could lead the team offensively.

    Miami Hurricanes

The Canes have improved a lot this year after their disastrous one last season. That being said, the team could be looking for a new backup point guard via the transfer portal, and Cupps may be able to fit in.

    Gonzaga Bulldogs

The Zags have had a disappointing season as well, and a few changes are expected here. They could also opt for a new point guard via the transfer portal, and Cupps has a lot to offer.
