Brad Brownell’s Clemson Tigers faced the Florida State Seminoles today at home. Clemson was on a three-game losing streak ahead of the game, and they needed a win against Florida State to improve their standing on the Atlantic Coast chart.
In the first half, it looked like they were about to end their losing streak after taking a 36-33 lead. But the Tigers lost momentum in the second half due to poor execution and bad plays that resulted in a 70-65 loss.
Brownell joined the Clemson program in 2010. He has had a good run with the Tigers, but his recent stretch has failed to live up to the expectations that the fans have of him. Following the loss against the Seminoles, the fans turned against him.
Social media erupted with demands of firing Brownell. Fans pointed out the reasons why he needs to be fired, including outlining the flaws in his coaching and more.
“Fire Brad the loser Brownell. This is Tammy Bowden 2.0. Brad sucks,” a fan wrote.
“Brad Brownell needs to give us answers. This team is in the midst of a historic collapse,” a fan wrote.
“year 16 and Brad Brownell can’t put one scoring guard on the floor. not one. doesn’t have one on the roster,” a fan wrote.
“When a majority of your shots are from 3 as a terrible 3ball team that’s a direct reflection of a terrible coach. Fire Brad Brownell,” a fan wrote.
“Before you guys send hate towards Brad Brownell remember you aren’t just attacking a coach but a father, a husband and a christian. One bad game shouldn’t takeaway what he’s brought to this program and we should be looking forward to seeing him continue to lead our tigers!” a fan posted a sarcastic message, taking shots at Brownell.
“FIRE BRAD BROWNELL IMMEDIATTLY!!! This is Tammy Bowden v2.0. Brad is below average. 5 tourneys in 16 years? F**k! What are we doing???” a fan wrote.
The Tigers are currently fifth in the Atlantic Coast with a 20-8 overall record and 10-5 in the conference.
Brad Brownell’s Tigers Didn’t Practice on Thursday
If the loss wasn’t enough, Brownell revealed something after the game that will frustrate the fans even more. Brownell said that after three consecutive losses, the players were mentally drained, and he decided to call off practice.
Brownell thought that giving the players a break would reenergize them and, in turn will help defeat the Seminoles. His plan failed miserably, and now the Tigers have a four-game losing streak.
“Obviously, that one hurts,” Brownell said. “Feel bad for our guys.”
The Tigers will host the Louisville Cardinals next on Saturday.
