“Void the NIL”, “Tell Us the Truth Bald A**”: Fans Infuriated As Mark Pope Provides Update on Jayden Quaintance’s Injury

Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope and big man Jayden Quaintance are facing fans’ heat as they’re not sure when the latter will return to play. On Thursday, Jan. 29, college basketball reporter Jack Pilgrim shared an On3 report on his X/Twitter account to talk about the two aforementioned figures.

The report says Quaintance is not participating in any kind of on-court action despite his lengthy absence due to an injury. According to Pope, the program is exploring opportunities and timelines regarding Quaintance’s future at Kentucky. The player was acquired with a lot of NIL funding at stake, but Pope stressed that they are doing all they can for him.

Fans online were infuriated as they felt that there was more than a simple injury and that he could be latching onto team benefits.

“Void the NIL checks. You no play, you no get paid,” one fan asserted.

“What does that work out to, about $1 mil per game??? Sign me up!! NCAA has to do something, should be pay for play, just like any other job! Wild,” another fan stressed.

“Is it too late to ask for a refund? Hopeful there is an insurance policy that will pay UK back for some of this,” another user pleaded.

“Sounds like the complication is likely his agent,” a user pointed out.

Other X users called out coach Pope, as they felt that the second-year head tactician was not telling the truth about Quiantance.

“Just tell us the truth bald a**, he’s sitting out,” one fan wrote.

“Just admit he’s prepping for the draft and hang it up,” another fan claimed.

“Difference between Cal and Pope is that Pope will hide stuff and talks about anatomy and doctor injury stuff for his players but Cal, on the other hand, will tell his players get in a play if you’re ready to go,” a user said, comparing Pope to coach John Calipari.

Pope is currently in his second year at the helm of the Kentucky-based program after he took over from Calipari for the role. Calipari has moved on from the Wildcats to coach the Arkansas Razorbacks. Meanwhile, Quaintance transferred to Kentucky for his sophomore year in the 2025-26 campaign after spending his first season with the Arizona State Sun Devils.
