Jayden Quaintance Injury Update: Kentucky Hit With a Blow Ahead of Game vs Texas

Unfortunately for coach Mark Pope‘s Kentucky Wildcats, they will have to play out another game without one of their prized big men, Jayden Quaintance, who transferred to their program this season.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, coach Pope and his 2025-26 Wildcats are set for an intense showdown against one of their long-time rivals in coach Sean Miller’s Texas Longhorns at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

But as reported by @ksr_ig on Instagram through On3’s Zack Geoghegan, Quaintance will miss his fourth straight game for Kentucky due to swelling in his knee. This means that coach Pope and staff will have to formulate another game plan without his services against Texas.

“Jayden Quaintance will miss his fourth straight game (Texas) with swelling in his knee, Mark Pope announced on Tuesday. https://www.on3.com/teams/kentucky-wildcats/news/mark-pope-jayden-quaintance-not-play-wednesday-vs-texas/,” @ksr_ig on Instagram captioned.

Quaintance has been dealing with issues on the same knee he suffered a torn ACL in last year. It seems likely that Pope and his staff are taking precautions when it comes to the sophomore’s playing time to limit any kind of injury.

But through 18 games played by the Wildcats in the current campaign, Quaintance has only played in four of them. After missing the first 10 games for Kentucky to start the year, Quaintance played in his team’s games from Dec. 20 to Jan. 7, where he averaged 5.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Currently in his second season of collegiate basketball, Quaintance is looking to go through the process to ensure he finishes out his first year at Kentucky strong. The Cleveland, Ohio native played out his freshman season with the Arizona State Sun Devils, where he averaged 9.4 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Mark Pope Stays Optimistic That Jayden Quaintance Will Get Over His Knee Struggles

Also in the aforementioned report published by On3, Mark Pope was quoted from his recent media availability about his thoughts towards Jayden Quaintance’s injury woes. For the tactician, he is staying positive and optimistic that his new player will get over them and be able to stabilize his knee soon enough.

“He will not play tomorrow night, but he’s making progress. We’re super optimistic, and you know, he’s kind of going through the process, and hopefully he’ll be back soon. I know that’s not very descriptive, but I’m trying to be protective of him also,” Pope was quoted as saying.

Kentucky is 12-6 on the season and will be looking to push its current win streak to four games against Texas. The Wildcats are coming off an 80-78 win over No. 24-ranked Tennessee last time out.
