The transfer portal has been wild so far, as schools are fighting for multiple transfers. This includes Duke head coach Jon Scheyer, who is going against multiple schools for former Alabama Crimson Tide power forward Aiden Sherrell.
Reports indicate that Sherell has now cut down his choices to five, and they include Indiana, LSU, Baylor, Michigan State and Duke. Sherell is set to make his decision soon after in-person visits to Baylor and Duke.
Duke needs a new power forward, as its biggest star from last season, Cameron Boozer, is projected to be a one-and-done and leave for the NBA draft later this year. They already have five-star signee Cameron Williams getting ready to replace Boozer, but a more experienced power forward in the lineup could be beneficial for the Blue Devils.
Sherell is just a sophomore and entering his junior year. He averaged 11.1 points, 6.2 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.2 blocks per game. He also played well against one of the best frontcourts in the game, Michigan, dropping 10 points, four rebounds, three assists, one block and two steals during the Sweet 16. This consistency has raised his stock and has many coaches wanting to sign him.
Duke and Jon Scheyer Having No Luck During Transfer Portal So Far
So far, Jon Scheyer is having no luck with the transfer portal. Top portal target, Flory Bidunga, chose to go to Louisville instead of Duke, with some of Scheyer’s other prospects also cutting down their choices, including Aiden Sherell.
Reports indicate that Scheyer is also trying to get New Mexico Lobos guard Jake Hall, but is facing some stiff competition. Duke is also reportedly interested in Wisconsin transfer John Blackwell.
For now, Duke is expected to lose just two more players in sophomore guard Darren Harris and freshman forward Nikolas Khamenia. Meanwhile, the loss of Cameron Boozer is the biggest blow, even though it was expected.
