Kentucky have appointed a new athletic director in J Batt, and it seems like a move designed to get the Wildcats back to the very top.
With a rabid as well as expanding fan base, Kentucky is one of the most popular programs in college sports today, and leveraging them seems to be what J Batt has been brought in to do. With the ultimate goal of winning trophies and delivering financial success, Batt has a big job on his hands, but appears ready for the challenge.
While few question his credentials, one question mark around his appointment still remains. Batt tends to head to where the grass is greener, as can be seen with short spells at previous programs before heading to Kentucky this month. But according to him, this is where he sees his and his family’s long-term future.
“In all sincerity, she (his wife) and I have talked, and this is where our boys will graduate from high school; they’re nine and eleven, so we got a long runway here,” he told KSR.
“This is a destination job for us. This is a place we wanna be. This is a place we wanna be at for a very long time. We are a 100% locked in.”
What’s J Batt’s Strategy Going To Be Like At Kentucky?
It seems that Batt’s focus is going to be on maximizing revenue for the Kentucky Wildcats across all sports, and he has a very clear way of trying to achieve it.
“My philosophy is ‘One More’… if you go to one game, go to two, if you buy 4 tickets, then buy 5… if you can’t go to games and fly a UK flag, fly it one notch higher. Everyone doing one more thing can make this place excel,” he said, per SB Nation.
While there might be richer programs in the NCAA, Batt plans to use the vast numbers to extract fractional increases in engagement and ultimately build revenue.
