UConn Huskies head coach Dan Hurley is gearing up for the Elite Eight matchup against the Duke Blue Devils today at Capital One Arena in Washington. This is Hurley’s third trip to the Elite Eight round since joining the program in 2018.
The last two times when Hurley made an Elite Eight run with his team, he won the NCAA title. So, the Huskies fans would be hoping that he will lead the team to another national title. So far, the Huskies have been great this season.
Everyone is doing their bit, hoping and praying for the Huskies to win and advance to the Final Four round of the NCAA Tournament. Hurley’s wife, however, is doing more than just praying for the win.
Andrea recently posted on her Instagram that she was washing her husband’s lucky underwear ahead of the game. Some fans took it as a joke and didn’t believe that she was actually doing it or that Hurley had a lucky pair of underwear.
Moments later, Andrea posted a clip of Coach Hurley’s lucky underwear getting washed in the machine.
“For all those requesting this footage,” she wrote.
Hurley being superstitious is not shocking, as most athletes and coaches have their own set of rituals before games. However, a lucky underwear is a funny superstition to have. But as long as it works, no one would complain about it.
Andrea has been a vocal supporter of her husband’s dreams as a coach. In March 2023, she told WFSB that she gets very nervous during games as she wants the Huskies players to realize their dreams.
She said that it must not be easy for the players to be a part of Hurley’s program, as he demands greatness not only on the court but also in their studies.
Charles Barkley Backs Dan Hurley’s UConn
NBA legend Charles Barkley recently chimed in on the upcoming matchup between Duke and UConn. Chuck said that he is a fan of Hurley’s work as a coach, and he believes that he has the ability to get the job done against any team.
What makes Hurley more special, in his opinion, is that he doesn’t need the best team to win titles.
“I think Coach Hurley is one of the best coaches,” Barkley said. “I think there are some coaches that don’t have to have the best team that can steal games. I think [Rick] Pitino is like that, I think [John] Calipari is like that, and I think [Tom] Izzo is like that,” he said.
Although Barkley is picking Dan Hurley and the UConn Huskies to win, he believes it will be a “fascinating matchup” to witness.
