UConn Huskies coach Dan Hurley may have just “jinxed” himself with his recent statement during a press conference ahead of his team’s most important game of the year so far.
On Saturday, April 4, Hurley and his Huskies will be pitted against coach Brad Underwood’s Illinois Fighting Illini in the Final Four of this year’s March Madness in neutral territory, the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Taking to his X/Twitter page, Adam Zagoria shared a quote from Hurley ahead of the said game. The coach was asked about his sideline demeanor and his tendency towards sporadic behavior while coaching.
The tenured tactician then admitted to this before mentioning that he has gotten no technical fouls so far in the Big Dance.
“I’m an intense coach. It’s hard to referee my games. But I’ve also gotten zero technical fouls in the NCAA Tournament. Oh, man, I just jinxed myself,” Hurley said.
Hurley’s sideline behavior is a hot topic, as he had a moment during his team’s game-winning play in their Elite Eight matchup against the Duke Blue Devils. While celebrating UConn guard Braylon Mullins’ game-winning shot, Hurley went over to referee Roger Ayers and proceeded to headbutt and stare him down.
Dan Hurley Says UConn Huskies Don’t Value Final Four Berths, Only National Titles
In Adam Zagoria’s same report, more of what Dan Hurley said during his recent media availability is covered. The two-time national champion coach was asked what his team is playing for in their 2026 Final Four game. Hurley said the UConn Huskies don’t hang NCAA Final Four banners and only do so with the national championships. He affirmed that a title is what they came for.
“We came here for rings, not watches. Everyone that comes to the Final Four gets a beautiful watch, but only one group is going to get a ring. So get off social media, stop injecting the dopamine into your arm and get serious about the preparation and the practice because we don’t hang banners for Final Fours at UConn. We hang National Championship banners,” Hurley was quoted as saying.
“If you want to hang a banner, you’ve got to get your eyes off social media, get your face out of the phone and get locked in on Illinois because Illinois is one of the best teams in the country and they’re as big a threat to winning this tournament as any of the four teams,” he continued.
