Duke Blue Devils guard Cayden Boozer got emotional, saying he let down his brother, Cameron, in their recent game on the national stage.
On Sunday, March 29, the Boozer twins and the rest of coach Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils lost 72-73 to coach Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies in the Elite Eight of the March Madness on neutral grounds, the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
In a video uploaded by sports reporter Brian Murphy on X/Twitter, Boozer was asked about the season overall, especially since it may be the last time he and his brother play together, since Cameron has NBA Draft aspirations this year. Cayden Boozer said he feels like he did not meet his brother’s standards.
“Well, I mean, it’s been a special year, you know. Obviously, being able to do what we did this year is just really special. And again, this was the last time we were able to choose this. So, I was never gonna pass that up. And, I just feel like I let him down,” Cayden Boozer said (1:00).
Cayden Boozer’s turnover in the Blue Devils‘ second-last possession against the Huskies caused UConn sharpshooter Braylon Mullins to steal the ball and drain the game-winning three-pointer. The Boozers and the rest of the Durham, North Carolina-based program are now eliminated from the national tournament, while the Huskies advance to the NCAA Final Four.
Cayden Boozer Said His Team Was In Proper Position To Win
Also in the video posted by Brian Murphy on X/Twitter, Cayden Boozer was asked to reflect on the second half of the game against the UConn Huskies, where the Duke Blue Devils’ mistakes led to the aforementioned Braylon Mullins game-winning shot.
Boozer said his team is aware of what they could’ve done better, adding that they placed themselves in a great position to win no matter what.
“ I mean, obviously, we could have done a lot of things better in the second half. But we still put ourselves in a great position to win the game regardless. So, yeah, I mean, obviously, there’s a lot of plays that happen in the game. But, we still put ourselves in a really good position to win,” Cayden Boozer shared (0:43).
