Candace Parker Gets Inside Scoop on Ref’s Consequences as Dan Hurley Error Turns Costly

WNBA legend Candace Parker recently shared what she heard about the future of the referee that UConn Huskies coach Dan Hurley strangely interacted with in his recent game.

On Wednesday, a video was uploaded to the “Post Moves” show’s official X/Twitter account, which is Parker’s podcast with Indiana Fever standout Aliyah Boston.

Parker and Boston discussed coach Hurley’s actions during his team’s Elite Eight matchup against Duke, particularly with referee Roger Ayers. After UConn’s game-winning play, part of Hurley’s celebrations included going over Ayers and staring at him, and then proceeding with a headbutt. During their discussion, Parker revealed what she heard about Ayers’ future.

“Do you know what I heard? I heard that ref isn’t reffing in the Final Four…That’s crazy ’cause you needed to teach that man up…But it was like the way he walked off too, like Dan Hurley walked off with his jacket off his arm,” Parker shared. (0:43)

It has since been confirmed by news outlets everywhere that Ayers will not officiate any of the two games for the 2026 NCAA Final Four. With this, Hurley’s focus will remain on his squad’s Final Four game against coach Brad Underwood’s Illinois Fighting Illini for a spot in this year’s national championship game.

UConn won their Elite Eight matchup over the Duke Blue Devils through Braylon Mullins’ game-winning shot, 73-72, which caused Hurley’s interaction with Ayers.

Candace Parker Has One Glaring Question About Dan Hurley’s Recent Actions With The Said Referee

In the same video, Candace Parker presented one glaring question amid Dan Hurley’s unusual interaction with the aforementioned referee during the 2026 Elite Eight.

Parker criticized Hurley for his behavior, as it could have cost his team the game with a technical foul. With this in mind, Parker brought up the fact that coaches always tell their players to be smart, which is hypocritical of Hurley.

“ But the question that I have is how do you do that as a coach and then tell your players to be smart in those situations because, you know what I mean? Because you could’ve lost the game for your whole team…But that’s ridiculous (to not tech him up) ’cause it, it should have been a tech, right? Like you go put your, you touched the ref,” Parker said. (0:20)
