Back in high school, AJ Dybantsa and Darryn Peterson had quite the rivalry, where it saw Peterson’s Prolific Prep sweep Dybantsa’s Utah Prep, with Peterson taking the No. 1 recruit spot from Dybantsa in several rankings.
Now, Dybantsa is with No. 13 BYU, while Peterson is with No. 14 Kansas, and their clash in college is happening on Saturday. So, which players are injured and which ones are starting during this rival showdown?
BYU Cougars vs. Kansas Jayhawks Projected Starting Lineups
BYU Cougars
- PF: AJ Dybantsa
- SG: Richie Saunders
- PG: Robert Wright III
- C: Keba Keita
- SF: Kennard Davis Jr.
Kansas Jayhawks
- SG: Darryn Peterson
- SF: Tre White
- C: Flory Bidunga
- PG: Melvin Council Jr.
- PF: Bryson Tiller
While Dybantsa and Peterson have different positions, expect the two rivals to guard one another during the game. Especially as Peterson might still want to prove he deserved that time when he dethroned Dybantsa as the No. 1 recruit in the country, and Dybantsa wanting some payback.
BYU Cougars vs. Kansas Jayhawks Injury Report
BYU Cougars
- Brody Kozlowski: OUT
- KJ Perry: OUT
- Nate Pickens: OUT
- Dawson Baker: OUT
- Xavion Staton: OUT
Kansas Jayhawks
- No injured players listed
While Kansas has no players listed as injured, Darry Peterson was dealing with an ankle injury he suffered during the win against Colorado. However, he did not appear in the latest injury report and it seems that his date with Dybantsa is truly happening.
There is very little chance be will miss Saturday’s matchup as this might determine who among them go No. 1 in the NBA draft this year.
BYU Cougars vs. Kansas Jayhawks Prediction
Darryn Peterson has won his last three duels with AJ Dybantsa. However, they are now in college, and Peterson’s Jayhawks are actually ranked below Dybantsa’s Cougars. They also have vastly different teams backing them up this season.
That being said, Dybantsa has been a beast so far this season, and he is hungry to prove himself to all the NBA scouts watching. If he could beat the man he could not beat in high school, then his argument for being drafted No. 1 overall by the NBA will get stronger. That being said, as a team, this should go to BYU.
