Top 5 Candidates Who Could Replace Earl Grant at Boston College

    1) Joe Gallo

Merrimack Warriors head coach Joe Gallo could be a perfect candidate to replace Earl Grant. Boston College is searching for someone to rebuild its program and help end its NCAA Tournament drought, which dates back to 2009.

Gallo is known for working with limited resources and still doing well. In the 2025-26 season, he led the Warriors to a 23-11 overall record and a 17-3 finish for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.

    2) James Jones

Yale Bulldogs head coach James Jones is another candidate who stands out. He is the winningest coach in Yale history, leading them to multiple Ivy League championships (2002, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023, 2024, 2025) and numerous NCAA tournament appearances.

This consistent winning record could bring the stability Boston College seeks in its new head coach.

    3) John Becker

Vermont Catamounts head coach John Becker might have been embroiled in controversies in the past, but he has an elite record. With Vermont alone, he has won over 300 games since 2011-12. He has led the Catamounts to the NCAA Tournament six times, but has never advanced past the Round of 64.

He led Vermont to a 22-12 overall record and 12-4 in the American East Conference for second place. Should he consider moving on from Vermont, Boston College could be one possible destination.

    4) John Groce

Akron Zips head coach John Groce has taken the program to multiple NCAA Tournament appearances. In the 2011-12 season, he took the Ohio Bobcats to the Sweet Sixteen.

He is a program builder and Boston College is looking for such leadership quality.

    5) Eric Konkol

Tulsa Golden Hurricane head coach Eric Konkol is slowly making his name in Division I college basketball. He just led the Golden Hurricane to an impressive 27-7 overall season with a 13-5 record in the American Conference.

What makes Konkol special is his recruiting skills and his use of the transfer portal. If Boston College wants to take a bet on an up-and-comer, Konkol is the man.
