The Arizona State Sun Devils are all set to host the Kansas Jayhawks in Tempe, Arizona, ahead of the penultimate round of the regular NCAA Men’s basketball campaign. These two Big 12 sides will enter the Desert Financial Arena later tonight for all the different reasons.
Kansas, which currently sits fourth in the Big 12 standings with a conference record of 11-5 and an overall record of 21-8, would like to make the most out of the remaining regular season fixtures, and this game will most definitely elevate its postseason chances. Arizona, meanwhile, will be playing for pride tonight as they currently languish in the 12th conference spot with a conference and overall record of 6-10 and 15-14, respectively.
Ahead of this mouthwatering clash, both sides will be affected by unavailability on the injury roster. Jayhawks guard Will Thengvall is confirmed to miss this game due to an undisclosed injury. However, Arizona could miss the services of forward Koa Peat, as he has been listed as probable for this fixture.
After suffering a lower back injury against Texas Tech earlier this season, it looks like Peat is all set for a potential return to Arizona, further reinforcing the side. Koa has been a force to be reckoned with this season. The standout forward has been averaging 13.3 points so far this campaign, along with 5.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. Touted by many as prospective lottery draft picks, it will be interesting to see the Jayhawks’ prodigal guard Darryn Peterson go head-to-head with Koa Peat in this encounter.
While there has been a lot of speculation surrounding Peterson’s on-court time, he has been averaging over 30 minutes in his last three games, and there has been no indication of him nursing an injury or being listed as unavailable for this game.
Can Kansas Jayhawks Qualify For Postseason?
The Jayhawks, in order to have a good postseason showing, need to win both of their remaining games against the Sun Devils and Kansas State, respectively.
With their conference foes Houston and Texas Tech projected to play in the south and midwest regions, they could potentially face Big 12 topper Arizona Wildcats in the last 8, while also playing their Sweet 16 and Elite 8 matchup in California, provided they qualify.
