Nate Oats just landed a major commitment from four-star point guard Anderson Diaz, one of the top prospects in the 2027 recruiting cycle.
The 6-foot-1 guard announced his recruitment to the Crimson Tide after taking an official visit to Tuscaloosa earlier this week. Diaz becomes Alabama’s first commitment in the 2027 class and gives Oats an early boost for the future.
He is one of the most dynamic lead guards in the class and ranked among the nation’s top prospects. Rivals lists him as the No. 24 overall player nationally and the No. 8 point guard in the country.
Why Did Anderson Diaz Choose Alabama
Diaz explained that the Crimson Tide staff were nice to him and remained in contact with him regardless of how he performed on the court. This helped separate Alabama from other major programs that pursued him.
“The love and loyalty was there from the start. I feel like from my first unofficial visit and before, even when they first started recruiting me, I feel like they’ve been non-stop, just with love, reaching out, bad games, good games. I see that it’s deeper than wanting me to help them. They want to see me get to the next level. They want to help me be a part of the journey as well. They care about the on-court stuff, off-court stuff, and it just felt right. It felt like home, literally. It just felt like it was home.” he said to Rivals.
Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, UCLA, Syracuse, Providence, Villanova, Maryland, Miami, and more were the top schools that showed interest in him. Despite this level of competition, he chose to join Alabama.
What Alabama Is Getting in Anderson Diaz
Diaz was one of the standout performers on the Nike EYBL this spring. He averaged 20.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game this season.
He describes himself as a point guard capable of adapting to different styles.
“I can get anywhere on the court at will. Make my teammates better. I can score the ball. I’m a point guard that can do everything on the floor. And they’re going to enjoy watching my games. They’re going to enjoy being there.” he said.
Those traits have helped him emerge as one of the fastest-rising guards in the 2027 cycle.
Landing Diaz is a huge recruiting win for Oats, with him on board the program can expect other players to take the initiative to join Alabama.
For now, the Crimson Tide have their first win in the 2027 class, and Alabama fans are very excited about Diaz’s future in Tuscaloosa.
