AJ Dybantsa Makes His Feelings Clear on Wizards Getting First Pick in the NBA Draft

AJ Dybantsa was one of the best players last season. When he committed to BYU, everyone knew what kind of player Dybantsa is going to be in college. He was head and shoulders above almost everyone. Despite BYU’s struggles all season, Dybantsa had a extremely impressive individual year.

He was the top scorer in the country. Dybantsa averaged 25.5 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 35 games. Kevin Young’s BYU had an average record of 23-12 overall and 9-9 in Big 12. The cougars got eliminated in the first round of the NCAA tournament vs Sean Miller’s Texas. AJ Dybantsa has been getting the number 1 pick shouts from very early in the season. And if the number 1 pick isn’t secure, he is certainly going to be one of the top three picks in this NBA draft.

It’s a nice change of pace this year in the NBA draft as no one knows for sure who is going to become the number one pick. All three of AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer have a pretty decent chance on landing that first pick. And after the NBA draft lottery, the number 1 pick would play for Washington Wizards next season. AJ Dybantsa recently talked about the chance of being the number one pick.

“Obviously, I’ve been betting on myself for a little while to be a number one pick. So initially, just thinking how I would fit into the team. I think I’m pretty versatile, adaptable, so I can play with anyone,” AJ Dybantsa said.

AJ Dybantsa shares about experiencing NBA lottery

Dybantsa shared how he was confidently watching along. He said that he wasn’t really worried about 14-3. However when the picks went to top 3, his interest spiked. Naturally so as he is touted to end up in one of those three teams.

When asked about the city of Washington and the prospect of living there if he is picked number one, AJ Dybantsa gave an honest answer. He shared how he only knows a little.

“Jordan Brand Classic was there last year. So got to tour their facility a little bit. I know a couple of the players, Trey Johnson, played against the bad league,” he said. “I’ve been watching AD for a long, time. Trae Young, even when he’s at Oklahoma. So I know a couple of guys.”
