BYU Cougars star AJ Dybantsa’s instant reaction to the Washington Wizards getting the first pick in the 2026 NBA draft is going viral. The Cougars star is projected by many draft boards to go first overall ahead of the likes of Darryn Peterson and Cameron Boozer.
After finishing the 2025-26 season with the NBA’s worst record at 17-65, the Wizards carried the best odds to land the top selection. The lottery gave Wizards their first No. 1 pick since they selected John Wall in 2010.
After the lottery win was announced, cameras turned towards Dybantsa, who was suspected of wearing a disappointed look.
Fans shared their reactions on the same, with many believing Dybantsa doesn’t want to be drafted by the Wizards.
“Pissed? Why? He knows what going #1 means. What, he thought he was going to OKC?” one fan wrote.
“Its cause he knows he cant drop 20 ppg and be roy with a team compiled of Trae Young, Anthony Davis, George and Sarr,” another commented.
“if he’s worth a number 1 pick, he should be good enough to help rebuild the franchise and turn them into playoff contenders. he already looks defeated, like he has no competitive spirit,” another noted.
“He knows it’s over , they’re about to waste minimum 7 years of his life , just like they did LeBron 😭😭” one fan added.
“He wanted Pacers or Jazz,” another remarked.
“Entitled f**k. He’ll get run and he’s playing with AD and Trae. Jesus CHRIST I AM SO SICK OF THIS S**T. Go play basketball for a living and stop f**king crying,” one fan added.
AJ Dybantsa Confident Heading into Draft Night With Wizards Top Pick Holder
Despite what netizens think on the internet, when asked about his reaction to the Wizards holding the No. 1 pick of the 2026 NBA draft, Dybantsa showed excitement to share the court with Anthony Davis and Trae Young.
“Initially, just thinking like how I am going to fit into the team,” he said. “I think I am pretty versatile and adaptable so I think I can play anywhere. Me, confidently, I was not worried about picks 14 to three… I have been watching AD (Anthony Davis) for a long long time. Trae Young, even when he was still at Oklahoma. I know a couple of guys there.”
The odds will keep on shifting until June comes around, when the NBA draft is going to take place. Until then, the Wizards have a decision to make.
