Retired NBA star Jamal Crawford’s son, JJ Crawford, is garnering a lot of attention as a future basketball prospect. Despite being a potential recruit for the class of 2029, he already has multiple Division I offers.
On Friday, SportsCenter shared a post from the recent EYBL E16 division game between NW Rotary and LivOn. JJ Crawford put up an impressive performance, helping his team secure a 75-58 victory. Kentucky head coach Mark Pope was also in attendance, potentially scouting future recruits in the game.
Jamal Crawford’s son had an impressive high school freshman campaign with Rainier Beach. He emerged victorious in the Division 3A state championship and was honored as MaxPreps National Co-Freshman of the Year.
So far, JJ Crawford has received offers from Michigan, USC, Memphis, Arizona State, Kansas, Louisville and Oregon. The 6-foot-4 guard is expected to follow in his father’s footsteps and make a name for himself in basketball.
Jamal Crawford played for the Michigan Wolverines during his collegiate career. The Cleveland Cavaliers drafted him with the No. 8 pick in 2000. In 20 seasons, he was honored as the NBA Sixth Man of the Year thrice, thus being regarded as one of the best sixth man in the history of the league.
After the 2025-26 season, Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats lost assistant coach Jason Hart, who left to join the SMU Mustangs. Furthermore, Alvin Brooks III is reportedly not returning for the upcoming season. Thus, there were reports that the program was looking to bring in Jamal Crawford as a replacement.
However, nothing came to fruition. But last month, KSR’s Jack Pilgrim said that there is still a chance of the former NBA star joining Mark Pope’s coaching staff.
“Crawford is someone UK offered a couple of weeks ago and as recently as two days ago, were still pursuing. Situation not over yet,” Pilgrim tweeted.
JJ Crawford opens up about dad Jamal Crawford’s influence in his life
Last month, JJ Crawford attended the USA Basketball minicamp. During an interview, he was asked about his dad Jamal Crawford’s influence on his game and his lifestyle.
“(I train) really just everything (with my dad),” Crawford said. “You know, ball handling, shooting. I train with him all the time. So that’s my training routine. Definitely thinking long term.
“My dad always talks about that. Certain things, he’s like, this is for long term. This isn’t for right now. I’m just trying to play hard and make the right read every time.”
It will be interesting to see who JJ Crawford ends up joining for his collegiate career.
