Kentucky are trying their best to add one final piece to their recruiting puzzle in 2026, and while it appears Mark Pope and his coaching staff have all the ingredients for the perfect final push, things have yet to fall completely in place.
Nikola Kusturica is the man that Pope is after to make his squad for the coming season look seriously strong, but, despite some initial optimism, it seems that Kentucky might not be as close to a commitment as we thought.
It all started when 247Sports recruiting analyst Travis Branham, logged a “crystal ball” prediction that Kusturica was destined for Kentucky, but has since withdrawn that prediction, which is bound to make the Big Blue Nation (BBN) unhappy.
While that optimism got fans excited, an update since then has forced the Kentucky faithful to be more circumspect about the move.
While Kusturica was initially highly rumored to be heading to Gonzaga, things have changed in the last week or so, with Kentucky now becoming the front-runners. That being said, the big man from Serbia is still contemplating staying at FC Barcelona, making it a frustrating time for the Wildcats as they try to secure a commitment.
Fans Aren’t Optimistic About Kusturica’s Arrival
The BBN seems to be playing down rumors of Kusturica’s arrival, suggesting in the comments section that he might be going elsewhere or that the information was incorrect to begin with.
With some time remaining till a final decision is made, Mark Pope and Co. will be hoping that Kusturica decides coming to Lexington is the best move for his career.
