Matthew Golden’s NFL Draft Scouting Report

Though he broke out late as a 2025 NFL Draft prospect, Matthew Golden has plenty of desirable qualities as a potential high-end movement-Z and impact starter at the NFL level.

At 5’11”, 191 pounds, Golden’s 4.29 40-yard dash has caused many to bill him as a speed WR primarily, but that’s a misconception. He certainly has high-end speed and burst, but he wins with his fluid and twitched-up mobility as a separator, and his liquid-smooth catch-point skills.

With a vast route tree, a prolific separation framework, slippery RAC ability, and stalwart conversion skills, Golden is a complete offensive catalyst, in the mold of Chris Olave or T.Y. Hilton.

    Matthew Golden’s NFL Draft Projection

In CSN’s 7-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft from April 12, Golden landed in Round 2 with the 33rd overall pick. James Fragoza has this to say:

Whether it is Deshaun Watson, Kenny Pickett, or some other QB starter on Sundays for the Browns, they’ll need pass catchers who can separate. Matthew Golden can do just that with ease due to his start-stop ability and natural gifts.

And in CSN’s recent 3-Round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, Brian Burden had this to say about Golden’s selection to the Dallas Cowboys in Round 1 with the 12th pick:

CeeDee Lamb needs a running mate on the outside with the Cowboys. It could be Jalen Tolbert, but Matthew Golden, a Houston native, could slide in and produce from the get-go. In his one season with the Longhorns after transferring from the Houston Cougars, Golden had 58 catches for 987 yards and nine touchdowns.

Golden is speedy and can stretch the field, and his presence should diminish the number of double teams Lamb faces on a weekly basis.
