Lane Kiffin has had an aggressive approach toward building his roster for the next season. Nearly every major name in the transfer portal this year has been associated with Kiffin and the Tigers at some point.
Now, he’s adding Husan Longstreet, the quarterback for the USC Trojans, to the list. As per a recent On3 report, the USC true freshman will be visiting LSU this weekend.
The former five-star recruit initially committed to play for Texas A&M. However, he ended up flipping his commitment and joined the USC Trojans instead. After just one year with the $1.40 billion worth program, Longstreet is now looking for another destination.
Longstreet emerging as one of the potential targets for LSU isn’t surprising. Kiffin has had eyes on every top player in the transfer portal. He’s also exercising his powers for the first time because he has a lot more resources at LSU than he did during his Ole Miss stint.
In his short stint with the Trojans, Longstreet went 13 of 15 for 103 yards and a touchdown. As per his father, Longstreet is looking for an opportunity to prove himself, and he can only do that if he’s allowed to compete.
While talking to Rivals, his father, Kevin, spoke on the ambition of his son and why he’s prioritizing himself over the commitment to USC.
“He wants a chance to compete, that’s how you get better…only by playing,” Kevin said. “He loves USC, the team and players, but no guarantees in life, and Husan is a competitor.”
Longstreet’s visit is still at an early stage to comment on whether he’ll end up at LSU or not. However, it shows that Kiffin is having conversations with several top quarterbacks and is in no hurry to ink a deal.

Sam Leavitt Recently Met Lane Kiffin at LSU
Sam Leavitt, who started his college football career with the Michigan State Spartans in 2023, transferred to the Arizona State Sun Devils the following year. Now, he’s back on the market and is looking for his next destination.
Leavitt recently visited LSU and spent some time with Kiffin. The 21-year-old quarterback wants an opportunity to develop, explore his full potential, and possibly win a title before heading to the NFL.
Kiffin seems to be the man for the job right now. Leavitt’s biggest red flag for now is the foot injury he suffered and the surgery he underwent for the same. His recovery timeline is making programs hesitate and keeping them from locking him in.
Husan Longstreet’s visit to LSU could also mean that Kiffin isn’t entirely sure about Leavitt and he’s trying to add more options before he makes the final call.
