Last season, the Ohio State Buckeyes had a very good run with an undefeated regular season and was ranked No. 1 coming into the Big Ten Tournament. This dominance was largely thanks to its defense, which included cornerback Lorenzo Styles Jr., who had been a central piece to that team’s defensive squad. Now, he has entered the NFL draft and try his luck at the pros, but where would he land?
Styles has shown that not only could he be a good cornerback, but he could also be a good part of the special teams unit as he was also the Buckeyes’ kickoff returner, showing his potential in a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown against UCLA earlier this year.
In addition, Lorenzo Styles Jr. is also very athletic and is a very fast runner, clocking in at 4.27 seconds in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and impressing many scouts. This is such a big reason why teams could draft him and maybe add him to their special teams. However, he could also play wide receiver, as he was one at Notre Dame but soon became a cornerback after transferring to Ohio State.
However, even though he was a solid defensive player for Ohio State and even has NFL pedigree, being the son of safety Lorenzo Styles Sr., many NFL teams may not be as impressed with him. This means that current projections for him would be that he would not be drafted in all rounds of the NFL draft and he would eventually end up as an undrafted free agent.
Despite this, he still has a chance to go in any of the later rounds, even in the last few picks simply because of his athleticism and his versatility, as he could play several different positions, be they on offense, defense or special teams.
New York Jets Likeliest Team To Pick Up Lorenzo Styles Jr.
Despite being projected as an undrafted free agent, Lorenzo Styles Jr. might still be picked late, if not, signed to a deal, with the New York Jets. Reports indicate that the team could use a late-round draft pick on the NFL legacy around the fifth or seventh round.
The team does not need another safety as they already have Minkah Fitzpatrick and Dane Belton, but they could add him as a developmental project down the line.
