Latest On LJ McCray: Will the Florida Gators Commit Not Be Signing on Early Signing Day?

LJ McCray is largely seen as the No. 1 defensive lineman for the Class of 2024, but the latest rumors state he won't be signing on Early Signing Day.

While the Early Signing Day period is a joyous occasion for college football programs and fans alike, the joy the student-athletes signing their National Letters of Intent experience is second to none. It is arguably the biggest day of their lives and one to be celebrated by the athlete and those close.

Sometimes, however, the decision is so big it deserves more time. In the case of Florida Gators commit LJ McCray, it looks like he’ll be taking a bit more time than expected and not signing his NLI on Early Signing Day.

LJ McCray Rumors: Will He Sign With Florida?

While surely not a positive sign for the Gators, all signs appear to LJ McCray not signing his NLI with Florida on Early Signing Day. At least not on Wednesday of Early Signing Day.

It should be noted, however, that the Early Signing Day period stretches from Wednesday, December 20, to Friday, December 22, for athletes to sign their NLIs.

McCray is reportedly not set to sign his national letter of intent on Wednesday and will continue to mull his decision to sign with the Gators or an unannounced school of his choosing.

The good news for Florida is the fact that no school has come out as a new favorite nor has McCray publicly flipped his commitment.

A consensus five-star recruit, McCray teased his indecisive nature just hours before Early Signing Day.

McCray also reposted and liked the news that former Florida commit Xavier Filsaime flipped his commitment from the Gators to the Texas Longhorns.

Standing at 6’6″ and 270 pounds, McCray stands as a pivotal piece to the Gators’ recruiting class. He’s a five-star prospect on each of the major recruiting services and is ranked as the consensus No. 1 defensive lineman.

The only other schools with ‘interest’ for McCray are Auburn and Florida State, according to 247Sports. His interest in Filsaime’s recent flip to Texas but according to 247Sports, he doesn’t hold an offer from the Longhorns.

It looks like McCray won’t be signing his National Letter of Intent on Early Signing Day and should very much be placed on the list of athletes under ‘flip watch’ this week.

UPDATE – At 6:10 p.m. ET, McCray signed his National Letter of Intent live on his Instagram page. This ended any speculation we had around his status with the program and his intentions.
